Here at Acute Spine & Sports Therapy, our Physical therapists examine each patient and develop a treatment plan to improve their ability to move, reduce or manage pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

There are so many options when it comes to physical therapy. At Acute Spine & Sports Therapy, we innovate and specialize in bringing the best technology available in the field of physical therapy, to increase our patient recovery and quality of life.

Cold Laser

Not only does it provide increased circulation to the targeted area, promoting natural healing, but it also reduces inflammation and breaks up scar tissue. Patients find that cold laser therapy decreases healing time and severity of injuries. It provides pain relief for over 300 issues.

  • The super pulsed laser (905nm) produces high powered light in billionth-of-a-second pulses. The power of each pulse drives the photons deep into the target tissue. Multi Radiance Medical technology creates a high photon density, strongly reducing pain and improving micro-circulation.

  • Infrared SLDs Pulsed broad band infrared emitting diodes (875nm) penetrate shallower tissue depths than the laser but provide a broader spectrum of coverage

  • Pulsed Red LEDs Pulsed red light (660nm) penetrates shallower depths Static magnetic field Static magnetic field keeps ionized molecules of tissue in a dissociated state, enhancing the body’s potential to absorb energy.

  • Electrical stimulation (Laser Stim) delivers electrical impulses and light through the skin and tissue, with the help of our exclusive TARGET (Treatment Area Recognition and Guidance Enhanced Technology)

Shockwave

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that stimulates the body's natural healing process. It can relieve pain and promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues. It accomplishes this by releasing stem cell growth factors in the injured tissue. New blood vessels are formed, improving blood supply and oxygenation of the treated area. Faster healing is one result. Reversal of chronic inflammation occurs as mast cell activity increases. Accelerates the generation of collagen, which helps tendon fibers become denser and stiffer, creating a firmer structure. Calcium build-up breaks down – granular portions of the buildup are removed by the body’s lymphatic system in areas where micro-tears and other trauma to tendons exist.

Shockwave
Benefits of Shockwave
  • Stress fractures

  • Tendonitis/tendinopathy

  • Muscle shortening/tightness

1

Safe and effective

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that penetrates the body’s skin without requiring surgery. A study on knee osteoarthritis marked a decrease in pain and improved function in knee joints among patients who used shockwave therapy.

2

Long-lasting

Patients who suffered from chronic tendinopathy in the shoulder, elbow, and plantar fascia reported no pain six months after treatment.

3

Versatile

Shockwave therapy can be used to treat several chronic conditions and is shown to be effective when used with other treatments (like laser therapy).

Ultrasound

The sound waves, or ultrasound rays, penetrate within the body generating heat increasing blood flow, and relaxing muscles and connective tissues thereby reducing pain and muscle spasms. The stimulation of these tissues in this way encourages repair and can greatly reduce the healing time of certain injuries. Ultrasound will also help to loosen up tissues, tight joints, and muscles allowing them to respond better to stretching exercises or other manual techniques after Ultrasound therapy. With increased range of motion and swelling reduction, the body part that undergoes the therapy will be ready again for general activities of everyday life.

Benefits of Ultrasound
  • Frozen shoulder

  • Bursitis

  • Arthritis

  • Tendinitis

  • Muscle spasms

  • Fractures

  • Joint sprains

  • Muscle strains

  • Muscle tears

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

The primary purpose of e-stim therapy is to simulate what happens in the body when you voluntarily contract and release a muscle many times in a row. This process strengthens and repairs tissue, particularly muscles which have become shortened, weakened, or atrophied due to injury or disease.

Benefits of Electrical Muscle Stimulation
  • Relieves discomfort and pain

  • Reduces muscle spasms

  • Restores muscle tone

  • May improve joint pain and swelling

  • Prevents and reveres muscle atrophy (loss of muscle mass/tissue)

  • Enhances rehabilitation of muscles

  • Increases range of motion for tense muscles or tendons

  • Reduces stress and discomfort

  • Improves blood flow and circulation

Dry Needling

The primary purpose of e-stim therapy is to simulate what happens in the body when you voluntarily contract and release a muscle many times in a row. This process strengthens and repairs tissue, particularly muscles which have become shortened, weakened, or atrophied due to injury or disease.

Benefits of Dry Needling
  • Joint problems

  • Disk problems

  • Tendinitis

  • Migraine and tension-type headaches

  • Jaw and mouth problems (such as temporomandibular joint disorders or TMD)

  • Whiplash

  • Repetitive motion disorders (like carpal tunnel syndrome)

  • Spinal problems

  • Pelvic pain

  • Night cramps

  • Phantom pain

Stabilization and Balance Training

Stabilization and balance training focuses on maintaining control of your center of gravity and improving your stability on your feet. It often involves exercising to strengthen your legs, core and muscles surrounding your spinal column as these are the main muscle groups that keep you upright while sitting, standing, or moving.

  • Increases core strength

  • Improves proprioception (the ability to know where you are in space)

  • Improves posture

  • Prevents falls

  • Reduces injury

  • Improves coordination

  • Improves agility

Strength Training

Strength training (also known as resistance exercise) increases muscle strength and bone density by making muscles work against a weight or force. Resistance exercise is an anaerobic exercise. Different forms of strength training include using free weights, weight machines, resistance bands and your own body weight.
